Group Run - Central Park
I woke up at 6am - thinking I was going to run 20 miles today. Since I am running a marathon in San Fran, and there will be some hills (not as many as you think) the coach told us we would be having a quality run not a quantity run. I ran a total of 14.7 miles, but 7 of them were hills. The North hill in Central park. He wanted our quads to get used to the pounding of running downhill, We had to run 5 upper loops, so we'd run up hill, and then down. It sucked. When its 60 degrees, you don't notice the humidity till you start running. It sucked more when the rain started, because then my muscles got stiff.
I also hate wearing a fuel belt. I look forward to the marathon - because I won't be wearing a fuel belt.

14.7 miles
2:24:19 pace 9:49
I've had better days.

6.1 Miles
55:13
pace 9:03

I ran a 9:16 pace the first half, than picked it up and ran 8:47 the second half. I wanted to work on changing pace - see if I can 'feel' how fast I am going.

I can't.

4.8 Miles
43:03
Pace: 8:58

I was faster than I felt. I thought I was closer to 9:45 - my feet felt really heavy - really really heavy. I tried to keep an even pace, so I ran up the West Side (nyc) and then turned around, hoping to return to my starting point in the same amount of time - i was 45 seconds slower on the way back. eh.

Group run - Central Park

Sometimes before our Tuesday run's we will have "Mission Moments." This is when someone from the group explains why they decided to be a part of Team in Training. Tonight's moment reminded me of why I am doing this. I have a lose connection to the cause. My sister in-law's father has lymphoma, but I actually didn't even know that until after I signed up. I signed up because I wanted to do something to help out my fellow human. The woman that spoke tonight signed up because her cousin had lymphoma. He passed away last Tuesday. I teared up during her talk. I thought of Brian, her cousin during my run. I hope that my efforts help ease the pain of at least one person, whether the money is to help provide care, or to save a life - i just want to help.

To the workout -

6 miles (the central park loop). Pacing once again on the agenda. Starting at 90th street on the EAst side, We headed north for a little over a mile at our marathon pace. At 110th street we were instructed to pick up our speed and run at our 1/2 Marathon pace. At 72nd street (west) - we were instructed to go as fast as we could at a pace we believed we could maintain for the remaining 2 miles.

6 miles
54 minutes
overall pace - 9 minutes

1st mile - 9:35 pace
NExt 2.5 miles - 8:43
Last 2.5 miles - 8:58 pace

oops. last 2.5 miles did involve Cat Hill - but no excuses.
September 18

Xtraining at 2am - while watching Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
I am trying not to use 'busy' as an excuse for not getting my training in.

Sunday, September 17, 2006

I woke up sore from my long run yesterday, and had a long busy day of work/rehearsals. Getting home at midnight has caused another day of missed training. I hope to get this insane schedule of mine under control.
September 16th
This morning there was a training run with the New York Road Runners. I signed up a week ago - paid my 9 bucks so that I would have access to the water/food during the 20 mile run. I would even run with my pace group.
I woke up at 4am on the couch, so i moved to the bed. I woke up at 5am when the alarm went off, rolled over. I woke up at
5:30, I was blind. My eyes were crusty from sick goo, and my vision blurry from who knows what. I had to be at 102nd street Central Park by 6:45 to get my number, and the run started at 7am - I was not going to make it. I rolled over and slept till 9am. I got up, ate cereal, than back to bed till noonish. Oh this felt good! After too much pizza - I left for my run at 5pm. I drove to Cunningham Park, I decided to be crazy and run 24 laps around the park - that would equal a ruff 20 miles.
I made it 21 laps, it was pitch black and one old man already expressed his fear of me running around in circles alone.

17.5 miles
3:03:32
10:29 Pace

I was not feeling good, and we are allowed one 'light' long run a month. 17.5 miles is light these days.

September 15
rest day
I finally went to the Dr. I was prescribed amoxicillan, which is bullshit. I wanted real drugs.

Thursday, September 14, 2006

I had a pocket of energy, and an episode of Racist Survivor in my DVR.
So I just completed 43 minutes (length of Survivor sans commercials) on the elliptical.
It is 1:40am - so I will now shower and pass out.
Still feeling sick. I should go to the Dr., I know. I did some research and it is actually good to go for a run if you are not feeling well above the neck, the run helps clear you up. So I strapped on my shoes - but it is raining outside and on the chilly side, I am pretty sure that is not healthy. And my body just told me to take a hot shower and go to work.

I hate this. Feeling sick, missing training days. I know I'll be okay - I missed a couple last week, but I still kept a great pace on my Tuesday run. I just need to be smart and appreciate my health insurance by using it.

September 13th
No feeling well. Face is full of snot, eyes are crusty. I am not pretty. I could not get up in the morning, my body wanted more rest. I wanted to xtrain when I got home, but my body just wanted rest. My body is very high maintenance!

Timed Run - Pacing workout.
I didn't make the group run because of work, but was able to do a run on my own.
I was instructed to work on my pacing - running 30 minutes 'out' and then 30 minutes 'back'. With the goal to run at my marathon pace the entire time - so that when I left the UCB theatre - ran to the west side, and then south for 30 minutes, when I turn around, I should reach the front door of the theatre at 60 minutes. I reached it at 59:59 - pretty close!

Total distance covered - 6.9 miles
pace:8:41
That is a little fast for my marathon pace. I'm hoping I can keep a 9:10 pace.
I hear there are hills in San fran!

tired.

My mild sickness is a bit milder - but I am taking it easy today, as in - taking an extra day of rest.
My head feels heavy, and I just want to sleep. So I am going to sleep now.

Sunday, September 10, 2006

I should have run today, but I have developed what I believe is a mild form of Conjunctivitis on top of a mild sore throat, and mildly stuffed nose. Also - I've only slept 5 hours in the past 48 - so rest time people.

Today's quote of the day "fuck, fuck fuck fucky fuck."
That is what I was saying today as I ran mile 18. I had a cramp that was so bad, I couldn't even touch the skin on top of it. It was PAIN, pure pain. But I ran through it, I had to, I don't like stopping for pain. I will stop to poop though, which I had to do about an hour into my run today - thankfully I was doing my loop of cunningham park, and they have nice bathroom facilities.

18.7 miles
3 Hours & 57 Seconds
Pace: 9:40

My pace for the first 11 miles was 9:24. The final 3 miles were the worst, but I did it. You hear that Cancer? I did it!
Fuck off cancer, were coming for you!

Friday, September 08, 2006

I was at work for 11 hours. I'm going away this weekend, so I had to get a lot of stuff done.
One thing I did not get done, my workout for today.
Xtraining did not happen.
I did eat an ice cream cone though.

6.1 Miles
56:02
Pace - 9:11

I almost shit my pants tonight. Seriously. For the last 3 miles of my run, I thought I was going to shit my pants. I ran from work. When I got back to work, I ran to the toilet, and shit the toilet. TMI? or not enough?

Lesson - Don't eat lunch at the Bagel Maven in NYC.

rest day - moved up from friday. too much going on.
1:30 am - i must go to bed.

Group Run - in the rain!
It was raining and I still went. It is good training. If it is raining on the day of my race - I will be somewhat prepared.

Today's run was focused on pacing. We ran 3 lower loops of Central Park (the lower loop is 1.7 miles).
It got a little confusing, because of the accent the coach speaks with. He said to run the first loop as a warm-up pace, then second loop should be 10-15 seconds faster, 3rd loop another 15-20 seconds faster. Then right before we started the first loop he said "run the first loop at marathon pace" - which i did not, and i did not pace very well. I failed.

loop one - 16:22
loop two - 15:46
loop three-15:40

FAILED!

But I felt strong, even though i am still a bit sore from the 17 mile run - which better stop since i gotta run the same amount in a few days.

bye bye cancer!

Monday, September 04, 2006

Today I woke up sore & sunburned. I was not smart yesterday, I ran during the hours of 11 & 2 w/o sunblock.

4.7 miles
41:53
Pace: 8:54

My training schedule said to run 3-5 miles. I have a 1.57 mile loop mapped out in my hood. During the first loop I decided I was just going to run 2 loops since I ran 17 miles yesterday. Than during my second loop I told myself "fuck that noize SPOI!, YUou are going to run 3 loops because you if you ran 17 miles yesterday, you can run 4.7 today"
So I fucked the noize and did it. I'm pleased with the result.

17.1 Miles
2 hours 46 minutes 30 seconds
Pace: 9:44

Today was HARD. One thing I hate, is wearing a water belt, it is added weight, and messes up my stride - but at this distance I have to have it. Plus I was not running in Central park, so I didn't have access to water fountains (which I hate stopping for anyway).
The first half I felt great - during the first 8 miles I was running a 9:18 pace. Then somewhere around mile 11 or 12 I was hurting. I was getting a weird cramp near my ribs (which went away finally). At one point my left ear kept feeling clogged, I had to keep popping my ears. I was drinking water, and eating my gel - I just don't think it was my day.
But I still ran 17 fucking miles - stopping only once in cunningham park to refill the bottles on my water belt.

And of COURSE I took a nice shit afterward.

HurriCAN'T
With wind gusts of 30mph, and rain pouring down - I did not go for a run today.
The rain didn't stop me, it was the wind. FU Wind!
So I went to sports authority and bought 2 more shirts, and 3 more pairs of shorts.

3.1 Miles
27:53
Pace: 8:59

If I can run an 8:44 pace for a 1/2 marathon - why can't I for 3 miles? What a mental game this running thing is.

Today is usually my rest day, but I had a busy week and had to cash my rest day in on Wednesday. So everything got pushed forward. Schedule said to run 3-5 miles. I usually like to do as much as I am allowed, but since tomorrow I'll be running 16-18 miles for the long run, I chose the lesser.

Also - have I mentioned this? The pit areas of my gear is turning brown. (too much sweat!)
I'm bringing Sexy Back!
