Day Off
I enjoyed it.

4.5 Miles
38:56
pace: 8:39

I was taught how to figure out what my pace SHOULD be. I took my fastest Mile time, did some Marathon Math - and discovered that during my regular runs - I should be running an 8:40-9:10 pace. For my Long runs (saturdays) I should be running 9:10-9:40 pace. So today during my regular run I pushed harder - and came in at an 8:39 pace - I was much more tired at the end of it then I have benn in past runs, since my pace has been around 9:30 - But I also feel stronger than I did 6 weeks ago. For longer runs, I have been instructed to start out at a 9:40 pace, and by the end of the long run be at a 9:10 pace. I am not sure how I'll do that - but i'll try on Saturday!

Group Session
TEST #1 FAST MILES! YIKES!
T-nite was hard. I ran 3 Fast miles. We did a warm up run for a mile. Then we re-grouped for a minute and lined up to get ready to run a mile as fast as we could. After the first mile, a recovered for about 3/4 of a mile back to the start, then ran a 2nd Fast Mile, recover for 3/4 of am mile, then I ran my 3rd and final Fast mile, only this mile had had a couple of uphill battles. Two goals - run them as fast as we could, really putting the effort out there, and also - for the miles all to be about 10 seconds within each other.

1st Mile : 7:10 - Personal Best!

2nd Mile: 7:42 - I fucking cramped big time on this one. The right side of my stomach just cramped up. I have to learn to breath better.

3rd Mile - 7:50 - no cramps - the hills just killed me, along with the 2 previous miles.

In about 7 weeks, we will have TEST #2 - running fast miles again - so that we can see the progress we have made. The next 7 weeks will involve a lot of "Hill Work" during our Tuesday runs.

XTRAIN -
30 minutes on the elliptical
Various squats & leg lifts to strengthen leg muscles.

Sunday, June 25, 2006

3.7 miles
35:12
9:30 pace
F-en Humid! Gross. Knee feeling better, Icing it helped.

Saturday, June 24, 2006

Group Run - 72nd Street Riverside Park to Chambers Street and Back.
9.6 miles
1:31:06
pace - 9:29
The knee felt way better this morning. The Trainer told me to pull back to 4 days running, 2 days xtraining, and to work on building my quad muscles, they aren't strong enough, that is where the knee pain is coming from, strain of carrying my Ass.
The humidity today was nasty. It was not raining during our run but I wish it was. My Dry Fit shirt was soaked. The point of Dry Fit is to wick the moisture away - it didn't have a fighting chance today.
My knee is a bit sore after this run - so I am going to Ice it and elevate it.
P.S. I took a pre-run shit, thank you poopy gods!

Day Off
Knee feels way better. I hope to run tomorrow.

Thursday, June 22, 2006

X-train- 45 minutes on the elliptical
3-5 EZ miles was the scheduled training for the day, but my knee is not 100 percent, so I settled for a low impact workout.
Saturday Morning one of the coaches is going to look at my knee, his first guess is tendonitis. I'm not worried, I just want to run.

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

My right knee is acting up. So a day off till it feels better.
I'm bummed.

5 Miles (Central Park Group Run)
48:10
More "Effort Level" work.
One mile warm up run. I kept this at a nice easy pace.
After the mile we were instructed to run 10 lamp posts at Effort 4, then 2 lamposts Effort 1, repeat.
Effort 4 is 90 percent heart rate - I have no idea either, but I pushed hard and think I got it.
Effort 1 is basically walking - I didn't walk, I still moved my feet and arms like a run, but was at a walking pace, I needed the time to re-coup. The last 1/2 mile we ran as a cool down, so I ran it similar to my warm up.
(FYI - I've raised about 2800 dollars so far! If you want to donate - click the donate button to the right!)

Monday, June 19, 2006

Today is the first day I did not train as scheduled.
My day became unexpectantly busy, so my workout time was devoured by a last minute fill-in gig at work.
In place of my Xtraining, I bought a bag of swedish fish and Runner's World for my late subway ride home.
I will not beat myself up.

5ish miles
49:45
Hot day. I was not in good shape to run, but its on the schedule, so I did.
Yesterday I woke up at 6am and was awake till about 2:30am.
I woke up at 9am, didn't fuel up, and ran 5 miles.
It is really important to eat carbs an hour or 2 before a run, or you will feel low energy like I did today.
I also pee'd in my pants a little. A product of fart confusion.
oh well.

9 Miles
1 hour 26 Minutes 36 seconds

I felt great during the run.
I had a runners High.
Your days are numbered Blood Cancer! I'm kicking ass!

5 Mile Run EZ

A lovely day to run! First 2 miles were hard, middle two felt good, last mile was hard.
All mental.

4 miles EZ
39:16
I was feeling slow today, I pushed myself hard last night both running, and being out late. Also, I didn't sleep well.
The first three miles I ran 10 minute miles.
I pushed on the last mile.
Tuesday June 13
6ish miles 55:17
Group Run in Central Park. We worked on our effort levels.
We did a warm-up run from the 72nd street mall, south to 67th street, then north on the Bridle Path to the Reservoir.
Then we pushed it. We were supposed to run at effort 3. This basically means unable to carry a converstion while running, but could still say "Hey what's up". We had to 2 laps at effort three, if we did it right our lap times would be no more than 15 seconds off from each other. The Reservoir is a 1.5 mile loop.
Lap 1 : 13:43
Lap 2: 13:38
I did it! I think. I think I may have run a little too hard. I'm not sore - I was just really tired toward the end of the run.
I am enjoying my Champion Brand running shorts, that come with underwear! So Breazy!

Monday, June 12, 2006

X-training day
35 Minutes on my eliptical machine.

Sunday, June 11, 2006

4 Mile EZ Run.
I felt really sluggish today, I felt like I was going to end up with a bad time on a perfect day.
37:46 was my time - If that felt sluggish, than I must be getting stronger!!

Saturday, June 10, 2006

The ladies of Team in Training participated in the Circle of Friends NY Mini 10K (6.2 Miles). Guess what! I won!

Well, we all won. Everyone got a medal at the end. But that was okay with me! This was my first race. I was so happy at the end of it! Especially since I made my goal and then some! I wanted to run a public 9 minute mile pace, and secretly an 8:50 pace.
My time was 53:40 - which is a pace of 8:39. Go me!
I also took a mean shit right after the race. Literally mean. It called me names as I left the porta potty.

Friday, June 09, 2006

Friday June 9th
Day Off.
Tomorrow the Group is participating in the Circle of Friends Mini 10K. A legit race. I'll get a medal and everything!

MY RUNNING LOG SO FAR. DAILY UPDATES TO COME

Saturday May 13th
First day of training! Ran two lower loops of Central Park - 3.4 miles.
They told us we should try to learn about a fellow member of Team in Training
I ran with Nijna (sp) She was a Dr. I have not seen her since. (Scary music).

Tuesday May 16th
Group Training in Central Park.
We meet at Urban Athletics, a sponser of Team in Training. I get fitted for a new pair of running shoes, leave my bag and head to 90th street. I run two laps around the resevoir. 3 miles total. The focus of todays training was upper
body technique, how to swing your arms properly. I feel good during my run, as I get to the end of it, the Head coach is there. He tells me to move up to the intermediate group
(I was running with the begginers).

Wednesday May 17th
Crosstraining Day.
I do an hour on my elliptical machine.

Thursday May 18th
3 mile run. I drove to Cunningham Park, its a couple miles from my apartment. Big Apple Circus took over the parking lot, but I was still able to run the loop, which is .82 miles. I ran it 4 times. The smell of carnie was in the air. I did not write the time down.

Friday May 19th
Day off!

Saturday May 20th
3 mile run. Back to Cunningham Park.
Time 30:21

Sunday May 21st
Group Run at Riverside Park. 8:30 AM
We were told to run at a pace that allowed us to still carry a conversation with someone. Today's run was not about speed, it was about getting our feet used to running for a longer period of time. One Hour. Run south for 30 minutes, and then turn around. If I did my pacing properly, I would return to my starting location at 60 minutes. I ran with Hammy, we got back at 59 minutes. Good enough!
(we ran about 5.5 miles)

Monday May 22
Xtrain. I workout on my eliptical while watching Jack Bauer Save the world again.

Tuesday May 23rd
Group Run in Central Park.
More upper body technique. This time using it to lower our strides. 3 laps of the lower loop. 5.1 miles. Didn't write down time. But I remember being happy with it.

Wednesday May 24th
5 mile run in Cunningham Park (I messed up, i was only supposed to do 4). Circus still there. Carnie smell still there.

Thursday May 25th
4 miles - back at Cunningham Park. Circus is still there - along with Marines and their helicopters. It is Fleet Week. A good friend of mine, who is a Marine, happens to be there. Total Chance, I knew he was in town for fleet week, we were going to meet up, but I did not know he was going to be at Cunningham Park. Now it smelled like Carnie and Fleet.

Friday May 26th
Day Off!

Saturday May 27th
Group Run Central Park.
4 Mile Loop. 37:17 is my time.
I take the worst shit 5 minutes after run.
My metabolism is starting to mess with me.

Sunday May 28th
3.5 mile run. Cunningham Park
33:02 is my time.

Monday May 29th
Xtraining Day. I use my eliptical.
I miss running though. I wanted to run instead. But we have to xtrain.
Doing something other than running is part of the training.

Tuesday May 30th
There was a group Xtraining workout in the Park. I couldn't go, I had a show
at 8pm. So I used my eliptical at home. I wanted to run.

Wednesday May 31
4 Mile run.
My mentor Wanda sent a really cool link - gmap-pedometer.com
I mapped out a 1.5 mile loop and a .92 mile loop.
I was sick of Cunningham Park.
38:11 was my time.

Thursday June 1
Met my friend Shelly in the park for a run.
5 Miles was on the plate. 3 lower loop laps.
Before we started, I took another horrible shit!
My body just shot everything out at once. Awesome right?
Shelly could only do two loops, she was on a break from work.
I completed the 5.1 miles in 48:49
It was a hot day - the head coach said it would take about 10 days for the body to adjust to the heat.

Friday June 2
Day Off!

Saturday June 3
Group run in Central Park. 8:30AM
7.5 Miles. There is a misty rain falling.
One full loop of the park, 6 miles, followed by a loop of the Reservoir, 1.5 miles.
I pay attention to my watch, I want to be running at a good consistent pace.
70 minutes and 10 seconds.
The 7.5 miles stays with me all day long, as I can't get home till 2am because of
work and a b-day party. Gross!

Sunday June 4th
I am not sore! I really haven't been this entire time. I get stiff if I sit for a period of time, but I loosen up fairly fast.
I had a long day on Saturday. So I switch my workout. I am supposed to run today, but I need sleep. So I swap the Monday/Sunday workouts. Sunday is also a long day, but I get on my eliptical around midnight for 35 minutes. Shower and sleep!

Monday June 5th
5 Miles.
I use gmaps and find a 2.5 mile loop around my apartment building.
47:09 is the time. I feel good after the run.

Tuesday June 6th
4 Miles. Around my neighborhood.
37:00 Feeling good.
No group run because of a Fundraising Clinic.

Wednesday June 7th
Group Run tonight -I can't go because of Work. Effort Levels is on the plate. Basically I was to push myself for a bit, then hold back, then push. I run on my own. In the Rain. It sucks. I think about only doing 3 miles instead of the full 4.5. But then I remember why I am doing this. I suck it up. My pace is off. But I was soaking wet. The only time we don't run is if there it thunder/lighting/ice. I have trouble with the effort levels, the rain is distracting.
43:05 is my time. Blech.

Thursday June 8th
3 Miles. I decide to put the Effort in today.
26:32 - feeling good!
